Biography / Bibliography
Extracted from “the Sportsman”, January 1854, Pg. 228.
“Records of the Chase speak to the great experience of their author. Now that “Nimrod” is gone from amongst us, no one appears as well qualified for such a chronicle as “Cecil”. “It is long indeed since we have seen a more readable book, or one that will give the beginner a better notion of how the chase is and has been carried on in this country.”
“The volume abounds in useful hints, generally impressed by a well-told story, or demonstrated in connection with some oddity or ‘character’, who has done or had not done those things that he ought to have done. In addition to the records of the more celebrated packs now at work, the London sportsman will find a very useful chapter on the ways and means of hunting from town, and to what countries he may more particularly give his patronage and support.”
