First Published in Dublin, (Todd 59 a & b) using an unauthorised manuscript which Burke condemned as ‘so blundering as to vex me. [Byrne] makes me say, and that at a critical point, the direct reverse of my sense.’

Probably the reference is to page 11, lines 19-21, here reading:

The nobles have the monopoly of all the means of acquiring wealth.

In the corrected London edition this is at page 13, line 19-21, is restored to read:

“The nobles have the monopoly of honour. The plebeians a monopoly of all the means of acquiring wealth.”.

This and other corrections appeared in the First London edition. ‘Debret brought [the Dublin issue a] to me very luckily before he printed it, and I corrected the worse parts.’.

Apparently 2,000 copies were printed of the c and d London editions.
