Dryden, 218(B): “This interesting piece, abusing Settle, gives particulars of his family: ‘his Mothers Husband; a barber in Dunstable, and his good Mother sold Ale;…the better half of his Generation are Barbers.’ There is an account of Otway challenging Settle to a duel, under which threat he is said to have confessed to having written “The Sessions of the Poets’. His matrimonial affairs and his writing for the party are also touched on. Published April 1682.
